We are going with long shot Jackson Bend (#13) as our winner and key horse for exotic bets. Jackson is one of only two horses in this field that have popped a 100 Beyer rating. (Sidney’s Candy is the other) It used to be a must in picking the Derby winner, but seems to be overlooked this year.
Jackson Bend has five (5) wins and three (3) 2nds in last 8 races. Two of the three 2nds came against Eskenderey, the scratched favorite that many thought was legit enough to win the Triple Crown. Some even said Esk was the best horse they have seen in 30+ years.
